About

Patrick D. Furey | Attorney at Law

Thank you for your interest in Pat Furey Law.  Mr. Furey is a licensed attorney in the State of Idaho, admitted to the Bar in 1979.  He is admitted to practice in all courts of the State of Idaho, the United States District Court for the District of Idaho and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  He also holds a mediator certification from the Idaho Supreme Court. The history of his litigation practice has made him particularly suited to the neutral mediation of disputes, having devoted roughly equal parts of his professional endeavor to the representation of plaintiffs and defendants alike, both as a member of law firms and as a solo practitioner.

Mr. Furey’s forty-five year career as a litigator began with a clerkship to Hon. Charles R. Donaldson, Chief Justice of the Idaho Supreme Court, in 1979.  He next clerked for Hon. Fred M. Taylor, Senior  U.S. District Judge for the District of Idaho, earning him a recommendation for employment by Joseph M. Imhoff of the Boise insurance defense litigation firm Imhoff & Lynch.   Furey was made a partner at Imhoff & Lynch after three years and was principally involved in the litigation of diverse and complex matters including the defense of Continental Airlines, BFGoodrich, Travelers Indemnity Co., CIGNA and Aetna Insurance Co.

Following Mr. Imhoff’s retirement from the Imhoff & Lynch firm, Mr. Furey joined Ringert Clark Chartered as a partner, where he continued his litigation practice but with greater involvement on behalf of claimants.  After the retirement of founding partner William Ringert, Furey withdrew from the firm to open a solo practice from a home office in 2002, which he continues today, focused primarily on mediation and the litigation of business disputes. Mr. Furey offers his services at competitive hourly rates. In addition, some claimants' cases are undertaken on a contingency fee basis.

Mr. Furey’s certified mediation practice includes an independent pre-session meeting with each party’s counsel if desired, for which there is no charge.  The purpose of such pre-session meetings is not to achieve any “soft start” to the mediation itself, but to gain additional insight into the nuances of the dispute, including the non-legal aspects of the parties’ relationships, after study of the parties’ mediation statements.  The free pre-session meetings with counsel offer a valuable additional component to the likelihood of achieving resolution.
